These shorts may be for kids but they have a nicely ‘pro’ feel to them that feels very grown-up. They’re a very lightweight and breathable fabric that feels barely-there to the touch, and I imagine they feel barely-there when wearing them as well. My son wasn’t too descriptive about how they feel but did mention “cool”, which I’ll count as both a general positive, and also a comment about the temperature of his legs as he runs around in them.The trimmings are all there and in the right places, and the two sensibly sized pockets are a definite plus point. You wouldn’t want to run around with a smartphone in your pocket wearing these as they’ll bash against your leg, but for tiny items like ID or a key, they work well. It seems they’re also good for sticking your hands in when you’re sulking about not being passed the ball during the match, something my son demonstrated to me when I’d rather he hadn’t.The style is simple and sensible and they pass as football shorts without a problem. The branding is relatively modest, and TCA’s branding, which I’ve noticed other people wearing in the past (because it reminds me of TCR, which is something completely different), is nicely modest.We got a Navy Eclipse pair and the dark blue colour is absolutely ideal for matching the local junior boy’s team kit, it doesn’t look out of place at all. It’s not just “OK because it’s dark blue”, it really is a spot-on match. If you order a pair, I hope you get as lucky with the colour matching as we did.The current asking price is seventeen quid, and that does seem a little steep, especially if it’s on top of an expensive top, shinpads and other accessories. But this is a quality pair of shorts in a good fabric, that should prove durable, will last until they’re outgrown, and will work as a hand-me-down to the next kid as well. They get our son’s “cool” seal of approval so it’s five stars from us.
